Chegados a Barca d'Alva, aldeia onde as águas do Águeda e Douro se tocam, passamos a ponte e seguimos em dircção a Freixo de Espada à Cinta. Já em pleno planalto mirandês, viramos para onde nos levam as placas, e seguimos o caminho até à Ribeira do Mosteiro.
Ali parece que a humanidade de esqueceu de existir, junto à ribeira vêm-se ainda muros de pedra e olivais com mais de 4 centenas de anos, vestígios de como se vivia noutras épocas.Vêm-se laranjais e figueiras ao abandono, e silvas a perder de vista. E um moinho, outrora usado para moer o cereal, que apesar de ter sido recuperado há menos de uma década, apresenta já um triste estado abandonado.
Nos céus voam grifos relaxadamente, e não fosse o final da época reprodutiva, haviam de ser dezenas de diferentes aves a passear-se entre as fragas, aqui, no coração do Parque Natural do Douro Internacional. E não pense que o melhor das fragas é o seu topo, onde os ninhos se encontram, toda a fragas revelam a história geológica deste local, pelas inúmeras falhas e dobras que se avistam.É fácil conhecer este local, com tanta história arqueológica e natural para descobrir: existe um caminho circular bem marcado, que pode ser feito em qualquer altura do ano.

If Miguel Torga (famous portuguese writer) described Trás-os-Montens (the northeast region of Portugal) as "The wonderful Kingdom" we have all legitimacy in saying that Ribeira do Mosteiro and Calçada de Alpajares are not less than the entrance doors of this Kigdom.
Arrived at Barca d'Alva, small village where the Agueda river meets Douro, we passed the bridge and follow the direction to Freixo de Espada à Cinta. Already at the Mirandês plateau, we follow the plaques towards Ribeira do Mosteiro.There it seems that humanity forgot to exist, near the river there are still walls of stone and olive yards with over 400 years, traces of how human lived in the area. There are also see the abandoned orange and fig trees, and endless brambles, and a watermill, where people used to mill their grain, and besides it has been recovered in less than a decade ago, it already shows sad traces of abandonment.
In the sky, griffon vultures fly peacefully, and if it was not the end of the breeding season, there would be dozens of species flying between the cliffs, here, in the heart of the Douro International Park. And do not think that the best of the cliffs is at their top, where the nest lay, it is the entire rock which reveals the geological story of this place, by the countless folds and faults that can be seen.
It is easy to know this place, with such an amazing natural and archaeological heritage to be discovered: there is a round trail marked, that can be done in any time of the year.
